Wayne Jacobs is set to leave his role of 7 years as Active Bradford Chair at the end of May this year. In this time, he has seen and delighted in how organisations, institutions and community groups have come together to work towards a vision of a district where people choose to be active every day. Now that many true partnerships have been cemented, with a structure in place, and a district-wide strategy set by Active Bradford, Wayne feels the time is right to make way for a new leader:
"It's been an honour to represent the district in this role and see how people can truly come together in working towards a shared goal. At this moment in time, physical activity and sport is at the forefront of many people's, and perhaps just as importantly, policy-maker's minds in Bradford.
The foundation has been set by our many wonderful partners across the district, paving the way for a new leader to take the sport and physical activity strategy on the next leg of its journey."
In 2016, under the leadership of Wayne, the first Bradford Sports Awards took place to celebrate and recognise sporting achievements from across the whole district - an inspiring event that was set to continue each year. With the Active Bradford team, Wayne also helped to bring nine million pounds to Bradford through the Sport England pilot, JU:MP, to focus on improving lives of children and young people in deprived areas of the district, through physical activity.
Wayne is due to leave the role at the end of May 2022 and applications for the Chairperson's role are now being accepted. If you are excited by the prospect of utilising your skills and experience to make a difference to people's lives in Bradford District through sports and physical activity, we would really like to hear from you.
